10-year Dream is As Good As I Imagined!!

Well, it’s been exactly 10 years to the day since I did my first international trip/housesits (first in the UK for a couple weeks, then France for three months, then the dreaded non-entry into the UK on my return for France!!!), and now I am finally fulfilling a dream that started percolating on that trip! 

I remember thinking about how miserable I was from jet lag and not long after, I came across these amazing transatlantic cruises! I thought to myself “wouldn’t that be wonderful to just adjust to the time change one hour per day instead of all at once?!“ And now, after 10 years of imagining myself with a balcony cabin, sipping coffee and eating croissants, I am finally here! ☕️🥐☕️

I think I filled all of you in on the cruise that I booked coming back from Spain at the end of October, but I also decided to book a cruise heading TO Barcelona that left yesterday! I had originally looked for something in October and didn’t find anything because usually transatlantic cruises come from Europe to the US in the fall (AFTER hurricane season) and then go back the other direction in the spring. I was surprised to find something in September, so I booked it to avoid the jet lag (justifying it to myself that I am making up for last year’s fall/kerfuffle that kept me from doing my “Big Journey“)!! 🥴🚢🌎

I decided not to get the Internet package and since I also won’t have cell service for the next seven days while I am at sea, I figured I would do a quick post today!! I  will be on a bit of a self-imposed, digital detox that I have been looking forward to for many years!! I’m sure I’ll have plenty to do to entertain myself so I’m not worried about getting bored!! I’ve just been imagining myself away from cell phones, Internet, etc. to “settle back into myself“ in a way that doesn’t seem to happen with all the distractions of the world! 

I am currently in the Bahamas, enjoying the beautiful view of the ocean from my balcony, sipping on coffee and reminiscing about (pondering on) the last 10 years of my life!! There is nothing like an anniversary date to get my pondering juices flowing, especially when it has to do with travel!! 🧳 🌎✈️

Our first stop will be in Tenerife, which I’m excited to explore, but until then I will just be enjoying my balcony, meeting, new people, and enjoying the food, of course! Off On A New Adventure!!

I made it to Italy yesterday and am still recovering from jet lag (and trying to track down my lost checked bag filled with all my toiletries for the next 4 months!!🥴🤪🎒). All My Plans Came Tumbling Down The Stairs in Pisa - but Fortunately Not in the Leaning Tower!! 🤪😂🤪

Sorry, this post turned out quite long so feel free to skip through and peruse the details!! A few of you have asked for more information, so I thought I’d fill in some details for those inquiring minds who want to know!! Also, I just wanted to let you know my shoulder surgery will be THIS Thursday at 7:30 am (and all prayers and good intentions for healthy outcomes are appreciated)!!  🙏💖🙏 So here we go…. Our (unexpectedly last) day of sightseeing started with an early morning, crowd-free visit to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and it was the most perfect moment of the day!! Little did I know when we left our sweet AirBnb in Viareggio that morning, it would be the last time I would see it (expecting to return that evening)!! Mystical, Magical Mostar Bosnia!!

As I'm sitting on our terrace looking out on an Islamic minaret, a Catholic steeple and a bombed-out building next door, the history of this beautiful place is sobering and almost overwhelming. We are now in Mostar, Bosnia, and I have been excited to visit this place from the moment I saw the pictures; but I have fallen in love with the kind, gentle people who have suffered greatly and have chosen kindness and forgiveness instead of anger and more war. We saw a interesting sign in the shadow of the famous Stari Most bridge that encompasses the energy I feel here. It said "Don't Forget But DO Forgive FOREVER!!" Even after all the generations of being conquered (by the Ottomans) and bombed (by the Serbians during the Balkan war), each person seems to have the same sentiment....they just want to be left alone in peace!
