Cruisin’ the Mediterranean!!

It’s been kind of a crazy 10 days since my sister and I arrived in Barcelona! We had a few days of sightseeing (mixed in with a lot of sleeping to catch up, adjust to the time difference, and get rid of “airplane colds”), and it’s been a wonderful time together!! I haven’t had as much time as usual to write and ponder the Journey (and didn’t have good WiFi on the ship), but I put together a quick video and an overview of our trip!!

First we enjoyed an overview of Barcelona via the “hop on hop off bus” (with pictures of the beautiful Sagrada Familia and Gaudi’s architecture), followed by our 7-night cruise around the Mediterranean with stops in Marseilles (LOTS of rain and a transportation strike meant lots of WET walking!!), a stop in Genoa (where we took the train down to Cinque Terre to see the cute little cities there), a VERY intense walking day sightseeing in Rome (where we got to see the Pope do the Anglus/prayer on Sunday), Palermo, a lovely visit to Malta, and finishing up with one quiet, lovely day at sea!!

I’m sure there will be more stories to come, but I figured I would post this video to give you a sense of our journey thus far....

Off On A New Adventure!!

I made it to Italy yesterday and am still recovering from jet lag (and trying to track down my lost checked bag filled with all my toiletries for the next 4 months!!πŸ₯΄πŸ€ͺπŸŽ’). Yesterday was pretty much a wash (just surviving to get where I could shower and SLEEP!!), but today I’m at least functional (even though my body and brain now think it’s the middle of the day and feeling much better, but the clock says it’s almost time for bed)!! πŸ€ͺ😴  Anyway, I thought I would take a few moments of my wide awake time to catch everybody up on the next few months! (For those on Facebook, forgive the duplication of my thoughts!!) I feel like my Journey began a few weeks ago with my visit to Indiana with my sister and her family! It has become kind of a tradition for me to spend time with them either coming or returning from my big trips in the past, and I couldn’t miss out on a chance to be with them! Amidst all the fun and busyness of enjoying Carol’s family (including her 7 grandkids), I’...

All My Plans Came Tumbling Down The Stairs in Pisa - but Fortunately Not in the Leaning Tower!! πŸ€ͺπŸ˜‚πŸ€ͺ

Sorry, this post turned out quite long so feel free to skip through and peruse the details!! A few of you have asked for more information, so I thought I’d fill in some details for those inquiring minds who want to know!! Also, I just wanted to let you know my shoulder surgery will be THIS Thursday at 7:30 am (and all prayers and good intentions for healthy outcomes are appreciated)!!  πŸ™πŸ’–πŸ™ So here we go…. Our (unexpectedly last) day of sightseeing started with an early morning, crowd-free visit to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and it was the most perfect moment of the day!! Little did I know when we left our sweet AirBnb in Viareggio that morning, it would be the last time I would see it (expecting to return that evening)!! It was still a bit cloudy when we first got to Pisa, but we got some great pictures then settled into the cafe right across the street! It was the perfect place to people-watch as many tourists tried to get the same picture (holding up the tower)!! It’s so ...

Surviving Jet Lag!!

Thanks everyone for you kind words and interest in my Big Adventure!! It means so much to me to know that so many of you are “with me” and enjoying themselves from a distance!! ✈️🌎πŸ₯°πŸ˜˜  I made it to Italy on Tuesday morning without too many hiccups and am enjoying the slower pace of life here!! We have spent the last few days resting, chatting, settling into our AirBnb and exploring the little beach-town of Viareggio!!  I met up with Sheryl in Pisa and we dragged ourselves to our AirBnb (both exhausted from overnight flights without sleep)!! I never sleep on planes and always seem to arrive at my connection point at JUST the time I’m supposed to be going to sleep!! (And then it’s just painful until I finally get a chance to sleep!! πŸ₯΄πŸ€ͺ) At least I enjoyed 4 movies, 2 meals, an extra open seat next to me, and a couple glasses of wine!! 🍷🍷  Unfortunately, the bag that had ALL my toiletries for the next 4-6 months didn’t make it right away, so I pondered what I woul...
